This is an interesting Christmas Eve.

It’s an interesting Christmas Eve because…

My hubz is at work today.

He is pulling a double shift – open to close – which means he won’t be home till tonight. Poor Jesse. I’m so grateful for all the hours he puts in at his crap-tastic job. Which is why I’m focusing harder on my writing this year. I need to get this damn book finished so it can get published so I can support HIM for a change.

It’s an interesting Christmas Eve because…

My son is at work today, too.

But even if he wasn’t, Chris no longer lives at home with his mommy since he is a certified grown-assed man now. He and his buddy are coming over when they get off work so they can teach me how to play Munchkins. I’m hoping they stick around for some dinner, too. I’m a lucky mama that my baby boy still comes to see me and I can rest assured that our relationship is still good, even if he does wash his dirty undies somewhere else now.

It’s an interesting Christmas Eve because…

My daughter is at her dad’s house.

Abbie spends half her week there, anyway, but during Christmas break I let her stay the whole week with her other family so that she and her little brother can experience the joys of Santa together. I think that’s awfully awesome of me, because what mom wouldn’t rather have her baby girl home with her on Christmas? But it’s not about me – it’s about her. Which makes me a really great mom, and not humble at all. I’m pretty damn fantastic, you guys.

It’s an interesting Christmas Eve because…

I’m all by myself!

finally merry xmasThis has all been a really long-winded way of saying I’m home alone today. Bah, humbug! My heart is three sizes too small! One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever see! Hello, Darkness, my old friend! Blue, oh, so lonesome for you! There’s a tear in my beer, and I’m cryin’ for you, Dear!

Okay. Just kidding. Enough of that bologna. I’m alone, but NOT lonely. I’ve got tons of crap to get done today. House stuffs like vacuuming and dishes and laundry and litter box and making things look less messy. Bloggy stuffs like publishing this stupid post so I don’t go off-grid as I tend to do. Writing stuffs like, you know, writing and whatnot. Art stuffs like making my bulletin boards pretty. Cooking stuffs like making spaghetti.

Yeah. Plenty to keep me busy, and all the quiet in which to get it done. I ain’t mad, bruh.

It’s an interesting Christmas Eve because…

We’re going shopping tonight!

xmas owl moose wrap

This is not the wrapping paper we got and I am all kinds of salty b/c it’s got mooses on it, too, and is way cuter than ours. DAMN IT.

When my hubz gets home from work tonight we plan to get some last-minute Christmas shopping done. We still need Santa paper. See, at our house, gifts from Santa are easily distinguishable from OTHER gifts in that they bear his visage all over the wrapping paper. And somehow I just never got around to purchasing any Santa paper this year. Might have something to do with being stranded at home on a daily basis with no car.

In addition to Santa paper we need to get some regular Christmas wrapping paper. I only got one roll of this adorable light blue stuff that has owls wearing Santa-hats all over it. But one roll ain’t gonna cut it. There are some large-ish items needing to be wrapped. Also, I can’t cut straight to save my life, so I end up wasting a lot of paper just by making everything so damn crooked. Just sayin’.

On the topic of paper… yeah… I lost all our tape I the move. I had this bag full of tape that my hubz brought home a couple years ago – that’s how much there was at the time! – because it went on sale somewhere for like 35-cents per roll, so he stocked up. And now it’s ALL GONE. And while I’m getting tape, I might as well get another pair of scissors, since the several sets I have are no longer sharp.

We also have to pick up some stocking stuffers. Things like ALL THE CHOCOLATE; and peanuts to fill up the toes; and oranges to stuff into the heels; and trinkets and doo-dads and stickers and pencils and fingernail polish and shit like that. But mostly chocolate. Obvs.

Santa likes to leave movies, too. Usually family ones, like the most recent Disney or Pixar release, or old hits like Gremlins and Goonies. No idea what we’re getting this year. Probably whatever’s left on the shelf, at this point.

Books, natch. We got some for the girl, and a couple for each other. But I’m not gonna turn down any books that fall into my cart. Which, I’ll make sure they do. Because books.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure at some point my hubz will send me off in another direction so he can buy me a gift. Because I don’t think he’s gotten me one, yet. Even though I already got his.

It’s an interesting Christmas Eve because…

It’s not Christmas Eve.

merry-everything-and-happy-always-727x1024Well, I mean, it is for YOU poor bastards.

But we aren’t doing ours till Sunday, when Abbie gets back from her dad’s house and neither of the guys are working.

Plenty of time for us to get things under control.

It’s an interesting Christmas Eve because…

I haven’t lost my shit.

Huh.

I’ll take it.
